Siena, Italy

Siena... the city which gives the name to the color, burnt siena because of how it looks in the summer months under the hot Tuscan sun.

Yesterday, we hopped on a train & headed to the adorable city of Siena. (As I'm writing this, I'm waiting in line to see Michaelangelo's infamous sculpture of David). Our ride took about 1.5 hours. It would've been a beautiful ride later on in the spring, when flowers & trees were in full bloom. But it was beautiful now nonetheless.

We arrived & walked about a mile from the station into the town. Obviously I stopped for some canolis. The best I've had yet!!! Honestly I had forgotten they existed until the other day & now I can't eat them enough! Here's to gaining 5lbs. in Italy!

Then we wandered to the Duomo there. The Duomo ( I can't remember the proper name of the church) was much more beautiful inside than the one here in Florence. It was painted & adorned!

We first went to the museum attached to the church. Everything was in Italian so I have no insightful information to share with you, other than there were cool sculptures...? The end. But we wandered up top & got in line to view the city from a platform. After winding staircases, MY FAVORITE... not, we made it to the top & the nauseating climb was well worth it. Gorgeous views! Of both the city & the church.

We wandered back down & toured both the church & crypts. Baptistry too! The crypts were incredible. The we're not discovered until about 10 years ago & feature some of the most amazing frescos I've ever seen. We visited the baptistry & then wandered the town. We got lost for a solid 2 hours trying to find the train station... oops! But we got to see lots of the town & really appreciate it. It was a beautiful, slow paced, Tuscan village. Perfect for family life & the total opposite of London.

We then headed home & met us with friends to conclude our day. Today is our last full day here, so I'm off for more exploring. Happy Wednesday & enjoy the snow in NY!
