Welllll.... day 5! I'm counting the days as FULL days so bear with me. Just go along with it, please. :)
We woke up & decided to try to see Michaelangelo's David statue. We had tried to go previously but the line everyday is out the door. Apparently booking tickets ahead of time is the way to go, for future reference for all of your impending travels!
So we waited & it was worth it. After seeing this massive statue, no other sculpture I saw this week compared. Not one bit. I found the contrast between the story of David & Goliath & the sculpture so cool. In the Bible, Goliath is mammoth in size & intimidating. In contrast, the sculpture is incredible large!
The entire time we were there, a VeggieTales episode about the story was suck in my head. There's a song in the story about how little guys can do big things too. I felt a bit odd, humming VeggieTales in the presence of the greatest man made sculpture but the piece spoke to me in a faith-based way. && it was awesome.
We then headed for lunch awesome this INSANELY popular sandwich shop but it was so worth it. Minus the olives... I could've done without. So obviously since I had that awful olive taste in my mouth, I needed gelato. When in Florence...
We then went to the Palantine Gallery & got to see how the Medici, (forgive my spellings as always) family lived. The palace was gorgeous but also became a bit overwhelming & gaudy at times. Not what I expected! It was well worth the visit & I have a variety of photos to show you from the day but a lot are on my camera. Lucky for you, that means better quality!
We then headed up to the Pilazze ( no idea how to spell that) Michaelangelo, which overlooks the city. We headed up at dusk & the view was beautiful. We got to see the sunset & the city at night. Well worth the walk up! However tiring it may have been... I take it as getting ready for all my summer hikes with my brother. HA.
We then met some friends for dinner & went out after for a bit with different friends. Needless to say, I'm exhausted & ready to head back to London.
Well, I'm off to head to my gate & head home. Thanks for a great week Florence, you were well worth it.
Promise, more stories & details to come when I have my laptop.
