Wednesday Recap!

Wednesday, we meet again. Here's my class and social recap for the day! However, I'll post my Wise Wednesday story later on tonight - off to write a paper before then!

On the subject of writing a paper - school work is finally starting to pile up and my level of procrastination is as high as ever. Maybe I thought the homework would be less here or I would be more diligent in my readings? Nope. Old habits die hard, I suppose. I only have one more week of classes before midterms... How crazy is that to comprehend? I've been here long enough to have midterms?

After midterms, time is sure to fly by. I have spring break, my mama bear is coming to visit, a weekend filled with school activities, a trip to Berlin, then only 2 more weekends to soak up all of London before heading home! Plus tons of projects, papers, scholarship applications... you name it, it's on my calendar!

But here's the thing - I am ever so grateful to have a jam packed remainder of the semester. I perform my best when I'm pushed to my limits and have small periods of time to accomplish tasks. When I have a few days to write a paper, I tend to put it off and do other relaxing things. When I only have an hour between other activities, I knock that baby right out! So here's to being jam packed the rest of the time I am here and loving every single second left of this grand adventure.

So more academic conversation to follow. You're welcome!

This morning was another of my weekly visits to a museum for my History of London in 11 Objects class. I love this class because it drags me out of bed on Wednesday mornings (hump day is a real thing. Once you get over Wednesday, the weekend is so close!). We've visited the National Portrait Gallery, the V & A, Saint Paul's... and this morning we visited the British Museum.

I've already visited the museum before and documented a few significant objects for all of you, so I won't bore you tooooo much. Here's the thing about this museum, it is utterly impossible to see every important display, hanging, artifact, etc. in one day! You have to go back numerous times and take your time - and it's is luckily only a 20 minute walk from my flat.

So we headed there for class this morning to check out the Parthenon collection. There is a largely held view that a majority of the items displayed in this museum are "stolen," with these sculptures and pieces of marble being some of them. If you want to learn more about the Parthenon, check out the British Museum's website : More Information!. The story goes... these massive pieces of incredible carvings were stolen by a British representative quite some time ago. It has caused great controversy since then, as to whether or not the objects should be returned to Athens. Apparently, they won't even loan them out to Athens for fear they might never be returned.

Sadly, one of the most iconic pieces of the is actually on loan to a museum in Russia right now, so we were unable to see it. You bet I'm about to head back and see it when it is returned! The museum is super careful about who they lend these objects out to, as there is even legislation to prevent the items from being returned to their country of origin. They stole these items - they want them to remain here!

Here's an example of some of the carvings but not the most iconic... don't worry - I googled a picture for you of the famous sections.

See the one laying down, kind of? That's the part out on loan currently. So thank you Google for your images!

A glimpse of the inside of the museum. Outside, it is gorgeous with tall columns and a spectacular entrance while the inside is a bit more modern.

Well, that's all the academic information I will bore you with today. I spend the remainder of my day grabbing a quick lunch and heading off to my religion class, where we learned about fundamentalism and the return to the basics of particular religions. Not much to share about that one - you can just read the news and be informed yourself :)

Tomorrow, I am not heading to class for my first skipped class! Just kidding - I'm actually headed to a Sport Law Conference about 30 minutes outside of London. My professor here recommended it/mentioned it to our class and I figured it sounded incredibly interesting. She is actually speaking at it so I'm excited to see what it is like. Numerous high profile sport organizations are expected to be in attendance - time to get networking. In all honesty, I am excited to attend. Why? I believe it will give me a good glimpse of what life as a lawyer in the sports industry is like. I think this is necessary, as I think I want to attend law school. We'll see how I feel about this prospect after tomorrow! (I'll most likely STILL want to be a lawyer! :)

Hope you all had a great Wednesday... however, it's still the middle of the day for all of you right now! Thanks for reading.
