300 or so steps later

I was never one for history. As a small girl, I dreaded going to history museums or historical sites. Everyone else in the family loved that 2000 trip to DC, where we spent days looking at Smithsonian museums. But me? I just wanted my picture taken and to look at the dresses of former first ladies.

But apparently all that has changed. Little history hating Hannah has become so amused by the historical things surrounding her here.

I don't think you can come to London and not be amazed by the history surrounding you. At home, the history is relatively new. Here, it dates back sometimes a thousand years. To the times of princesses, lords, castles & motes.

Today, I ventured in and to the top of Saint Paul's Cathedral. This stunning piece of craftsmanship is located about 25 minutes away from my flat. The London weather has been much nicer than I expected (read: it has not been raining that much!) and we headed off to meet our class for the tour and long climb up.

The church is still in use today. It actually features an American chapel inside, to commemorate those who worked to protect Britain in WWII. I might not spell his name right but Christopher Wren was the architect and we were able to see his grave in the crypts.

We then climbed up windy stairs to reach the whispering gallery at the base of the dome. This is where you can whisper and someone on the other side of the dome can hear you. There were lots of whispers occurring so I couldn't hear that well but I'm sure it works! We then ascended up some rickety stairs... you know? The type where you can see everything below you as you spiral upwards? A.K.A. the type I hate. But I was determined to reach the top and boy, was I glad I did.

Enjoy the pictures below and sorry the day was a bit dreary. All in all, it was an awesome climb and well worth facing some fears! My day finished with a trip to register my gym membership, a soccer game, and a religion class. Successful, busy and memorable day.
